Meet the Orthodontist Who’ll Make You Smile

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

We are proud to announce that we will be featured in the June Issue of Seventeen Magazine, in an article about orthodontics. Check out the article here, or read a sneak peak below:

We love to joke around and have fun, so our patients really enjoy their time here,” says Dr. Gibbs. “Our boutique-style practice lets us cater to you. We take time to get to know you and to understand your dreams for a better smile.” Dr. Gibbs offers state-of-the-art technology— including digital imaging, radiography, and computerized treatment plans—and multiple treatment options. “I help you decide the best option for you,” says Dr. Gibbs. “I’m aggressively conservative in treatment, meaning I won’t recommend extra steps that you don’t need.”

Straight teeth are not only prettier, they are healthier, too. They are easier to brush and floss, which helps reduce cavities and improve overall health and self-esteem. “A dazzling, healthy smile is a tremendous confidence booster,” says Dr. Gibbs. “It’s very rewarding to help a patient achieve a smile that can be literally lifechanging.”

Call your Manhattan, NY orthodontist today to get started, and start smiling for a lifetime!

Smile wider, live longer, from Gibbs Orthodontic Associates

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Folks with big smiles may actually live longer than those who don’t, according to a March 2010 study at Michigan’s Wayne State University. (Insert Name of Doctor) has known for quite some time that positive emotion has been linked to both physical and mental health, but researchers at the university did something quite interesting: they looked at photos of 230 ball-players who began their careers in baseball prior to 1950 and studied their smile intensity (ranging from big smile, no smile or partial smile). The players’ smile ratings were compared with data from deaths that occurred from 2006 through 2009. The researchers then took into account other factors that impact life longevity, including body mass index, career length and even college attendance.

The results? Researchers found that players who weren’t smiling in the photos died at the average age of 72.9 years. Players with partial smiles lived to be 75. Those with big smiles, however, lived on average to be 79.9 years old.

The take-away from the new study? Smile now, smile often and you might just live longer! Have you been perfecting your smile by visiting us? If not, give us a call!
