Dr. Gibbs’ triathlon for Team Fox!

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

All of us at Gibbs Orthodontic Associates are excited to announce that Dr. Eric Gibbs is participating in a triathlon through Michael J. Fox’s organization for Parkinson’s research, Team Fox. Team Fox is a grassroots community fundraising program started by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). It is made up of thousands of people worldwide who raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s disease research.

All funds raised through Team Fox go directly to MJFF to further its mission to accelerate the delivery of life-changing treatments, and ultimately a cure, to people with Parkinson’s disease. According to the Team Fox website, “Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease: a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease.”

As a participant in the triathlon, Dr. Gibbs will be raising money for Team Fox. Please visit Dr. Gibbs’ Team Fox page and help us cheer on Dr. Gibbs by donating to this amazing cause. Thank you in advance for your support.

Good Luck Dr. Gibbs!

Ask Gibbs Orthodontic: “How do I prevent tooth decay during my treatment?”

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Great question!

If you are brushing and flossing daily during your orthodontic treatment with Drs. Eric P. Gibbs and Fernanda Marchi, we think that’s great! But, don’t forget that it’s also important for you to visit your general dentist every 3-to-6 months in addition to brushing your teeth and flossing. Regular dental checkups are important for maintaining good oral health, especially during orthodontic treatment.

Tooth decay, which is caused by sugars left in your mouth, can turn into an acid, which in turn can break down your teeth. Children are at high risk for tooth decay because adolescents tend to be lax in their oral hygiene habits. Proper brushing and flossing routines, combined with regular dental visits, help keep tooth decay away.

If you have any questions, please be sure to keep ask Drs. Eric P. Gibbs and Fernanda Marchi or our team during your next adjustment appointment, or ask us on Facebook!

Have you had a check-up lately?

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Even if you brush and floss daily, as well as maintain your braces and visit our office during your orthodontic treatment it is still important to visit your local dentist every 6 months, or as recommended.

Why?

• Your dentist can detect and treat tooth and gum problems that you may have never felt or noticed.
• Even thorough daily oral care may not be enough to prevent cavities and oral decay.
• Frequent visits can allow your dentist to treat a problem early to prevent future complications.
During an oral exam your dentist can check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue. Checkups will also include a thorough teeth cleaning and polishing.

If you have not visited a dentist in the past six months, please let us know! Drs. Eric P. Gibbs and Fernanda Marchi will be happy to provide a few great references here in the area!
