We are committed to helping our patients achieve a Beautiful and Healthy Smile!

Monday, February 27th, 2012

As you know, good oral hygiene is critical to the success of every patient’s orthodontic treatment plan. That is why all of us at Gibbs Orthodontic Associates are excited about our participation in the Crest Oral-B OrthoEssentials oral hygiene program, which is designed to encourage excellent at-home care practices. OrthoEssentials gets young patients committed to oral hygiene by making the process fun and engaging while teaching them great techniques that lead to success.

Working with a simple 5-level oral hygiene rating system we discuss with patients at each visit how well they are doing and what they can do to continue their success.

Our goal is to help empower our patients to feel confident about their beautiful, healthy smiles by reinforcing great oral hygiene habits. We believe OrthoEssentials is the best way to accomplish that and the kit contains all the great tools needed to maintain your healthy smile throughout treatment and beyond!

If you have recently received our OrthoEssentials kit please let us know what you think by commenting below or on our Facebook page!

Update May 4: Thank you to everyone who entered our contest and congratulations to iPad winner Charlotte!

iPad Video Testimonial Contest Rules:
All of us at Gibbs Orthodontic Associates are very excited to announce our 2nd Annual iPad Video Testimonial Contest!

This year we are inviting all our patients to create a video testimonial with the theme:

The Dr. Gibbs Top Ten List

Be creative and make a video with your own version of a Top Ten List!

There will be two rounds of elimination before the Grand Prize winner is selected. We are also adding a Fan Favorite category which will be competing for an iTouch!

First Round: a panel of 5 (five) unbiased and impartial judges will view all the videos and narrow the field to the top 5 (five) videos. These will then be posted as our finalists.

Second Round: from the top 5 videos, the judges will each vote for one video they think deserves to win Grand Prize (iPad!). We will tally the votes and declare the Grand Prize winner.

Fan Favorite: our 5 finalists will also be running for the Fan Favorite category. Votes for your favorite video will need to be submitted through our facebook page by “Liking” the video, our Blog by making a comment, or in person at the front desk by filling out a ballot. The video with the most votes will win our Fan Favorite category prize!

Submit entries to zaida@gibbsortho.com by 11:59pm March 31st, 2012. The videos will be posted on our YouTube channel, our website and right here our blog.

As always, we recommend you use your best judgment in creating a video and keep in mind they will be posted to our YouTube channel which is public. For example, it is a good idea to avoid using your first and last names or any other reference that you may want to keep private (where you live, go to school, etc). We will be asking all participants (and their parents/guardians) to sign a waiver. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us!

Thank you for being part of our patient family and we hope you will enter our contest!

Good luck to all our patients!

Ask Drs. Eric Gibbs and Fernanda Marchi: How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Your smile is totally unique, so the time you’ll need to spend undergoing orthodontic treatment will also be unique. Generally, orthodontic treatment will take about two years, and this is for good reason. During this time, your teeth will slowly move into their desired positions, leaving you with a great smile with as little discomfort as possible. Rushing treatment can result in a less than perfect smile with a greater chance of tooth movement after your treatment is complete. At Gibbs Orthodontic Associates, we don’t want to waste your time with treatment that won’t retain your smile for the rest of your life.

Of course, treatment time will vary depending on your specific situation. Very minor tooth movement may only take a few months to correct, while serious malocclusion (poor bite) may need more than two years to correct. Only Drs. Eric Gibbs and Fernanda Marchi will be able to accurately estimate the time your treatment will take. But trust us—it’ll all be worth it in the end!

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, from Gibbs Orthodontic Associates

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Each February for the past 62 years, the American Dental Association (ADA) has sponsored National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

For kids wearing braces, brushing and flossing can become more difficult, requiring extra time and vigilance to remove food particles that accumulate on and between the teeth and in braces. New options for braces such as Invisalign Teen, which is removable, make it easier for kids to maintain good oral health during orthodontic treatment.

If the health of your teeth is ignored during treatment with braces, the results can be significantly compromised. Drs. Eric Gibbs and Fernanda Marchi are available and happy to explain why effective brushing and flossing is one of the most critical actions needed from patients during orthodontic treatment. Have you visited us lately? Give us a call and schedule an appointment!
